A renowned Polish climber, Pawel Kopec, is feared dead after being stranded on the treacherous Nun Kun mountain range in the Himalayas. Kopec was attempting a solo climb of the 7,135-meter high Nun peak when he reportedly fell and sustained injuries on the descent. His last contact was a satellite phone message indicating he was injured and seeking rescue.
Efforts to locate and rescue Kopec have been hampered by extreme weather conditions, including heavy snowfall and strong winds, making helicopter flights impossible. Initial search efforts by ground teams were also unsuccessful due to the dangerous terrain.
The Indian Air Force has attempted aerial reconnaissance, but visibility has been severely limited. While a ground team has been assembled to try and reach the climber, hopes are fading for his survival due to the prolonged exposure to the harsh environment and the presumed severity of his injuries. Despite the ongoing search, authorities acknowledge the slim chances of finding Kopec alive after several days without contact and worsening conditions.
