He emphasized the historical significance of May Day as a day of international working-class solidarity and struggle against capitalist exploitation and war. He warned that the traditional labor organizations and social democratic parties have betrayed the working class, becoming instruments of the capitalist state and supporting imperialist policies.
North stressed the need for the construction of an independent, international socialist movement to unite the working class across national boundaries and fight for a socialist alternative to capitalism. He highlighted the crucial role of the International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI) and the World Socialist Web Site (WSWS) in providing a Marxist analysis of the global crisis and building this revolutionary movement. He called on workers and young people to join the ICFI and participate actively in the struggle for socialism.
