The Unstoppable Protest

Bjørn Nymoen’s book, ostensibly about understanding and potentially stopping war, falls short of providing a substantive analysis or actionable solutions, according to the review. While promising insights into the complex nature of modern warfare, the book primarily focuses on describing the evolving character of war, particularly the rise of networked conflicts, cyber warfare, and the blurring lines between state and non-state actors.

The review criticizes Nymoen for lacking a coherent theoretical framework, instead presenting a fragmented collection of observations and quotes from various sources. He doesn’t offer a political or economic analysis of the drivers of war, such as imperialist competition or the capitalist system. He also fails to seriously address the role of major powers, like the US, and their involvement in global conflicts. Instead, there is a neutral tone in discussing the world’s powers and their impact.

Ultimately, the review concludes that the book avoids addressing the fundamental causes of war and offers no concrete strategy for preventing future conflicts. Anyone looking for an explanation of the causes of the current war madness in his book and an answer to the question of how it can be stopped will be bitterly disappointed. Nymoen provides no political perspective for the fight against war.
