Adams’ Death: Speak Up

This article from the World Socialist Web Site (WSWS) discusses the death of Ronald Adams, a Stellantis worker at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) in Michigan. Adams died in April 2024 after suffering a medical emergency at the plant. The WSWS alleges that his death was preventable and stemmed from unsafe working conditions and a disregard for worker safety by Stellantis management and the United Auto Workers (UAW) union.

The article criticizes the UAW for prioritizing company profits over worker well-being, claiming the union has colluded with Stellantis to maintain a grueling production pace and suppress concerns about safety hazards. It cites instances where workers have reported safety issues that were allegedly ignored by both the company and the union.

The WSWS suggests that the relentless production demands, combined with inadequate safety measures, contributed to Adams’s medical emergency and subsequent death. It criticizes the UAW’s handling of the situation, accusing them of failing to investigate the incident properly and of downplaying the role of working conditions in Adams’s demise.

The article calls for an independent investigation into Adams’s death, demanding full transparency and accountability from Stellantis and the UAW. It encourages workers to come forward with information about the incident and broader safety concerns at SHAP and other Stellantis facilities.
