Trade Winds

The Ambani family has postponed the opening of their “India in Fashion” exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, originally scheduled for March 1st. The reason cited is unforeseen circumstances. The exhibition, backed by Reliance Foundation, aims to showcase the history of Indian textiles and their global influence on fashion over centuries. It will feature a wide array of historical garments and textiles, alongside contemporary Indian designs.

The Reliance Foundation, led by Nita Ambani, has a longstanding partnership with the Met, previously supporting exhibitions like “Tree & Serpent” and contributing to the museum’s educational programs. This exhibition is intended to highlight Indian artistry and craftsmanship to a global audience, exploring its impact on international fashion trends and celebrating the diverse and rich textile traditions of India.

The postponement comes as a surprise, given the anticipation surrounding the event and the Ambani family’s strong ties to both India and the global fashion community. A new date for the exhibition opening has not yet been announced.
