Epic Impact

A 47-year-old man died after riding the Fury 325 roller coaster at Carowinds amusement park in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 15th, 2023. While initial reports focused on a crack discovered in a support beam on the coaster, Carowinds officials stated that the beam issue was unrelated to the man’s death.

The man, identified as James Young, was reportedly found unresponsive after the ride. Despite immediate medical attention from park personnel, he was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The official cause of death has not been released pending autopsy and toxicology reports.

Fury 325, one of the world’s tallest and fastest giga coasters, was immediately shut down following the incident and remained closed for inspection. The crack in the support beam was discovered by a visitor who alerted the park, prompting the immediate closure. Carowinds issued statements expressing condolences to the family and emphasizing the park’s commitment to safety. The park cooperated fully with authorities during the investigation. The roller coaster has since been repaired and reopened after passing thorough inspections.
