Now, I know this is gonna piss a lot of people off. And honestly? I don’t fucking care.
Democrats suck so fucking bad that at this point, part of me genuinely thinks they need to lose to Republicans just to learn a fucking lesson.
And before anybody starts screaming at me, let me explain what I mean.
For years, we’ve heard Democrats tell us that they’re the party protecting democracy. They’re the party protecting our rights. They’re the party standing between us and Republican authoritarianism. We’re constantly told that we have to vote blue, that we have to fall in line, and that we have to support them because the alternative is so much worse.
But here’s my fucking question: What the fuck are Democrats actually protecting if they’re willing to compromise away the very rights they claim to defend?
We’ve watched Democrats vote alongside Republicans on legislation that critics argue threatens people’s rights. We’ve watched Democratic politicians make compromises that leave the very people who depend on them feeling abandoned. And we’ve watched the same old political game play out over and over again, where we’re told to be grateful for whatever scraps we’re given because, hey, at least they’re not Republicans.
Well, I’m fucking tired of it.
I’m tired of the lesser-of-two-evils argument being used as a permanent excuse for Democrats to avoid accountability. I’m tired of people acting like criticizing Democrats somehow means you’re helping Republicans. I’m tired of being told that if I don’t support the Democratic Party unconditionally, I’m responsible for whatever happens next.
No. Fuck that.
A political party does not automatically deserve your support just because the other party is worse on certain issues.
If Democrats want people to vote for them, they should have to earn those votes. They should have to demonstrate that they’re serious about protecting people’s rights. They should have to explain their decisions, defend their records, and answer for the compromises they make.
And if they fail to do those things? People have every right to be fucking angry.
Here’s where I’m probably going to lose some of you.
At this point, part of me thinks Democrats need to lose elections for that lesson to finally sink in.
Not because I think Republican policies are automatically better. Not because I think Republicans are going to save us. And certainly not because I believe that people whose rights are threatened should just sit back and enjoy the fucking ride.
But because what the fuck is going to convince Democratic leadership to change if they can keep doing the same shit and still expect everyone to vote for them?
If the Democratic Party can disappoint its own voters, compromise on issues those voters consider fundamental, and then turn around and demand their support by warning them about Republicans, what incentive does its leadership have to do anything differently?
Why change when fear alone can keep people in line?
Why listen to frustrated voters when you can dismiss their criticism as helping the other side?
Why earn people’s trust when you can simply tell them that the other guys are worse?
That’s the fucking problem.
And yes, I understand that elections have consequences. I understand that Republican victories can have devastating consequences for people who are already vulnerable. I understand that losing an election doesn’t magically guarantee that Democrats will learn anything. They might double down, blame their voters, or find some other excuse for their failures.
But that doesn’t erase the underlying problem: a party that expects loyalty without accountability is eventually going to lose people’s trust.
And honestly, when Democrats talk about saving democracy, I can’t help but wonder what democracy we’re even talking about anymore.
Because democracy isn’t just about holding elections. It isn’t just about putting a ballot in a box every couple of years and pretending that everything is fine. It’s also about representation, accountability, political participation, and the ability of ordinary people to influence the decisions that affect their lives.
When people feel that their choices are limited to two political parties that they don’t fully trust, when they feel that their concerns are routinely ignored, and when they believe that voting has become a matter of choosing which disappointments they can tolerate, something is seriously wrong.
I wouldn’t literally claim that democracy has disappeared from the United States. Elections still happen, political opposition still exists, and people still have avenues for participation. But I do think the health of a democracy deserves to be judged by more than whether elections continue to take place.
And by that standard, I think we have some serious fucking problems.
Democrats can keep telling us they’re protecting democracy. They can keep telling us that Republicans are a threat. They can keep telling us that every election is the most important election of our lives.
But eventually, they need to look in the fucking mirror.
Because you cannot spend years telling people that their rights are on the line and then expect those same people to ignore your own decisions when you help advance policies they believe threaten those rights.
You cannot demand accountability from Republicans while insisting that Democrats should be given a free pass.
And you cannot keep treating your own voters like they’re obligated to support you regardless of what you do.
So, yes, maybe Democrats need to lose.
Maybe they need to experience the consequences of taking their voters for granted. Maybe they need to realize that people are not an endless supply of votes that can be summoned through fear and guilt. Maybe they need to understand that being the alternative to Republicans is not the same thing as being worthy of people’s trust.
Will losing actually teach them that lesson? I don’t fucking know.
But I do know that the current arrangement, where voters are repeatedly told to accept whatever Democrats offer because the alternative is supposedly worse, is not a sustainable substitute for earning public confidence.
And if Democrats want to keep calling themselves the defenders of democracy, then they need to start taking the concerns of their own constituents seriously.
Not just during election season.
Not just when they need donations.
Not just when they need volunteers.
All the fucking time.
Because the point of democracy isn’t to make sure one particular political party stays in power forever. The point is to give people a meaningful voice in how they’re governed.
And if a political party forgets that, it should not be surprised when people stop trusting it.
Democrats, you don’t own our votes. You don’t get our loyalty just because we’re afraid of the other guys. Earn our fucking trust, or stop acting surprised when we decide we’ve had enough.
Because at this point, I’m tired of being told that the only way to protect democracy is to keep supporting a political establishment that so many people feel has failed them.
If democracy means anything, then accountability has to apply to everybody.
Yes, even the Democrats.
